The Puerto Rico Techno Economic Corridor (PRTEC) is a regional economic development (501 c3) organization that integrates in its Board of Directors representatives from the private sector, academia, and government in an effort to promote innovation based economic development for the western region of Puerto Rico. Its mission is to foster the economic development of the Western Region of PR with a focus on innovation and high tech industries. PRTEC has developed an innovation ecosystem during the past seventeen years and has accomplished several important achievements during that time. Among its success stories are: manages VITEC, the first high tech business incubator in the island, where it has supported over 60 local technology startups (among those are CDI, Inc., the first Puertorican based biotech company that have raised over $10 million in grants and private equity), the creation of a new aerospace industry & cluster in the island (including being the landing site for Global companies such as Pratt & Whitney, Lockheed Martin, and others), fostering the medical devices industry through its medical devices cluster, training 500 youth in technology & entrepreneurship, among other. All that resulting in the creation of over 3,000 new jobs in western Puerto Rico.
